UK carrier EE extends and upgrades its 4G network to over 500 rural areas

In 2020, the UK government and the four major carriers in the country — EE, O2, Three, and Vodafone — announced the Shared Rural Network (SRN) programme, an initiative to deliver reliable mobile broadband to people living in rural areas. And in a recent blog post, EE shared some of its accomplishments regarding its involvement with the SRN.As the carrier announced, it has upgraded or built new 4G connectivity in over 500 locations since December 2021. Furthermore, EE shared that it has upgraded a total of 1362 sites with 4G coverage since the signing of the Shared Rural Network deal in 2020. And in its blog post, the carrier announced that it intends to deliver approximately 900 more upgrades to rural areas by 2024.

EE’s accomplishments are good news for people living in the UK’s rural areas; however, the interesting thing is that even people living in the cities can benefit from EE’s network upgrades and the Shared Rural Network programme. Some of the roads on which you should now have a better 4G connection are the M1, M4, and M6 in England; the A487, A489, and A4212 in Wales; the A838, A85, and A90 in Scotland; and the A1 and A24 in Northern Ireland.
