Unbound Has Detailed Driver and Vehicle Customisation Options

EA has advertised Need for Speed: Unbound’s customisation features a lot, and now we have more info on what and how we can modify while racing on the streets of Lakeshore City.

In a new Under the Hood post, EA dove deep into the customisation aspect of the game.

Driver customisation

When you first boot up Need for Speed: Unbound, you will need to create your character. The options provided would be more than ever before to “give your driver a uniqueness never before seen in the Need for Speed franchise.” You will begin by selecting a model for your character and then customise things such as the driver’s head, eyes, skin colour, and presentation. The presentation is where you can decide the character’s voice, which has a slider to adjust the pitch.

Other in-depth customisation options include the ability to choose a hairstyle, hair colour – don to dyeing the tips of your hair, facial hairstyle and colour. Face details include face tattoos, makeup, dirty, or a bandage pack.

Accessories such as sunglasses, hats, and caps can be worn along with many clothing options such as coats and jackets, tops, bottoms, and shoes. You can also change these any time in a Safe House, so if you are not happy with how your character looks, you always have the option to customise more. You can also select poses for your driver after you win events. More can be unlocked by completing challenges, snatching collectibles, and progressing the story.

Car customisation

Need for Speed: Unbound allows you to customise cars in two aspects: style and performance.

When you pick style, you can customise the ride shape and add or remove body panels on some cars. Premade body kits can be chosen as well as stuff like new rims and real-world tires down to the colour of your window tint and headlights, tail lights, front and rear bumpers, side skirts, brake calipers, and even your licence plate.

The Wrap editor features new decal content from “fashion brands, manufacturer brands, new fonts, street art, decals from the EA universe, and more.” These designs can be saved and shared with the community as well.

The game also introduces legendary customs, which EA describes as “the most extreme expression of customisation ever seen in the Need for Speed franchise, featuring silhouette-changing parts that transform a car’s appearance into a one-of-a-kind custom.”

Minute customisations include vanity items like underglow, the horn sound, air suspension, exhaust sounds – which can be even more fine-tuned with settings for timber, tone, overrun, and strength of the force induction.

Driving effects include tags which are “stylized graphics that explode off your ride as you hit jumps, burnout, drift, or otherwise drive it like you stole it,” and samples which are “a layer of stylized audio that’s played over the top of the car to heighten key moments like gear changes and high speed,” which can also be customised.
