Amid confusion over the list of Trinamool candidates released on Friday for civic body polls and large scale protests across the state, when the differences between Trinamool Congress leadership and its political consultant Prashant Kishor’s Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) is becoming evident, Trinamool Congress Supremo Mamata Banerjee clarified on Monday the list released for 108 municipal bodies which is signed by the party President Subrata Bakshi and secretary general Partha Chatterjee is final.

Differences between the candidate list released by the party and the uploaded list on the website had created confusion on Saturday.

Meanwhile, speculations are rife that West Bengal Trinamool Congress Supremo Mamata Banerjee is likely to sever its ties with Prashant Kishor’s I-PAC in future. The political party and I-PAC have a contract till 2026 and I-PAC is working for Trinamool in West Bengal, Goa and Tripura.

Speaking to ET, I-PAC chief Prashant Kishor denied such claims and told ET that he has no such information about it. “I have no information about the matter and I don’t know about it,” Prashant Kishor told ET, when asked about his organization severing ties with Trinamool Congress is making rounds in social media. A vernacular daily also reported on the issue.

When asked about it, Banerjee refused to comment on the issue and said “its party’s internal matter and she will not comment about it in public.”

Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress leadership appointed co-ordinators for various districts to manage the municipal polls. While announcing co-ordinators for various districts, Trinamool secretary general Partha Chatterjee said, “There should not be any confusion regarding the candidate list. Everyone cannot be made a candidate and party workers must accept this.”

“We have prepared a candidate list following approval of Mamata Banerjee and we urge people to make Trinamool Congress victorious in the coming municipal polls,” Chatterjee added.

For North 24 Parganas, Trinamool minister Jyotipriya Mullick and Partha Bhowmik will coordinate, Subhasish Chakraborty and Aroop Biswas will coordinate in South 24 Parganas district. Another Trinamool minister Firhad Hakim will oversee Malda, Murshidabad and North Dinajpur. Trinamool party state President Subrata Bakshi will manage Coochbehar and East Midnapore. Jhargram will be under Partha Chattopadhy and Purulia and Bankura will be co-ordinated by Moloy Ghatak.

Amid confusion over the list of Trinamool candidates released on Friday for 108 civic body polls, protests broke out across West Bengal in more than 18 districts over the candidate list as party workers expressed displeasure and disgruntlement over ticket distribution. Trinamool has released candidates list for Municipality elections except for Darjeeling on Friday. The party was in a tight spot on Saturday with a large number of workers staging protests and confusion over two lists making rounds.

“It is a temporary reaction from the people who are protesting. There are 2272 wards and people can be dissatisfied,” party secretary general added.

The Trinamool workers staged sit-in protests, blocked roads, burnt tyres and even got engaged in scuffle in some parts of the state. Protests continued from last night in East Midnapore, Nadia’s Ranaghat, Gayeshpur, Birbhum, East Burdwan, Barrackpore, Jalpaiguri, North 24 Parganas districts’ Bongaon, Barasat, Bhatpara and Baduria and so on. Party workers were seen crying in public view. In Burdwan, RAF was deployed to control the situation.

Meanwhile, three PILs filed in the Calcutta High Court, seeking central force deployment in the municipal polls in Bengal. The HC directed the state to take a decision if deployment is needed on the poll day. Chief Justice to hear the case tomorrow.
