Xbox users can now change TV volume from their Xbox consoles, mute all startup sounds and more with the newest update.
A new HDMI feature called Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) can be used to send commands to and from devices that support the technology, like TVs connected to Xbox Series X|S consoles. This means that console users can now change the TV volume from the audio and music section of the Xbox guide. This can be done by pressing the Xbox button on the controller, which will pull up the guide and then navigate to the Audio & Music section. Here, you can see buttons which will allow you to change the TV volume or mute it. No need for the TV remote anymore while you’re gaming.
Speaking of muting, Xbox users can now finally mute the console’s startup sounds. This was something that fans have been wanting for a really long time now. You can customise this setting by going to Profile & System > Settings > General > Volume & audio output > Additional options and selecting Mute startup sounds.
Other quality of life features in this update includes the ability to select or change your home Xbox. When you make a console your home Xbox, others can use your console to access your games and content even when you’re not signed in. This will also allow you to play your digital games offline.
There are also updates to the console’s power options. The standby option is updated to sleep and energy saver to shutdown (energy saving). The Xbox passkeys and guest keys are changed to Xbox PINs. This is just a name change for the added layer of security. It works the same way otherwise, in that you can use your PIN on your console to limit access to things such as purchases and parental controls.
If you are someone who likes to record gaming videos, the Xbox app for Android and iOS will allow you to trim the length of the gaming clips. The Xbox Game Bar will now also let you directly import any clips that you recorded to Medal.tv, which is a website that allows users to edit and share video game clips.
As for under the hood updates, Microsoft is rolling out a firmware update that fixes bugs for USB flight sticks that connect to the Xbox Adaptive Controller as well as bug fixes for Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2, Xbox Series X|S Wireless Controllers, Xbox Adaptive Controllers, and Xbox One Wireless Controllers with Bluetooth support.
