Value Stocks: Insurers get comfortable with valuations, return to D-Street

After the recent fall in the market, the benchmark Nifty50 trades closer to the long-term average price-earnings (P/E) of 16.8.

Synopsis

Led by insurance companies, domestic institutional investors (DIIs) excluding mutual funds pumped Rs 24,682 crore into equities in June 2022, a multi-year high according to the ETIG database. They have deployed close to Rs 1 lakh crore since the beginning of the year.

ET Intelligence Group: Insurance companies, which are often believed to be seasoned value pickers given their longer investment horizon, have started raising bets on equities as market valuation is coming closer to the long-term average. They invested $3.3 billion in June 2022, the highest since March 2020, the data compiled by the brokerage firm CLSA show.
