Wakanda Forever – How Many Post-Credits Scenes Does the Film Have?

The article below contains heavy spoilers for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is out in cinemas in India on November 11. The Ryan Coogler film is a sequel to 2018’s Black Panther film. It introduces a new superhero from the Golden Ge of Comic Books, Namor, played by Tenoch Huerta.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever only has a mid-credits scene

It should be noted that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever does not have a post-credits scene. It does, however, have a mid-credits scene which might be one of the best from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The mid-credits scene shows Shuri (Letitia Wright) finding out about a secret that changes some things in a big way for the Black Panther’s Royal family tree.

As the film ends with Shuri bringing peace to Wakanda after defeating Namor (Tenoch Huerta), she leaves for Haiti to finally burn her white funeral clothing to end the mourning process of the loss of her brother. It’s an emotional scene as she is now the new Black Panther and she comes to terms with the fact that she needs to deal with the loss and now lead her people, just like her brother did.

Rihanna’s Lift Me Up plays during the heavy scene which is the singer’s tribute to Chadwick Boseman. The scene is a tribute to Boseman and his legacy left behind, and also signifies that Shuri is ready to begin the healing process.

What comes as a surprise though is that Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) arrives with a boy. She reveals that the boy, who is named Toussaint (Divine Love Konadu-Sun), is her son and T’Challa is his father. It becomes clear why Nakia left Wakanda: To protect her son. It also revealed that her mother Queen Ramonda also knew about this information.

Toussaint is in touch with his Wakandan roots and knows the language of the people. He says Toussaint is not his Wakandan name, and reveals that he is Prince T’Challa, son of King T’Challa.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever producer Nate Moore told Collider in an interview that it didn’t feel appropriate for the film to have a post-credits scene as the film deals with emotional subjects:

“I think the subject matter of the film was such that it didn’t feel appropriate to have, then, a stinger. Much like [‘Avengers:] Endgame’ felt like an emotional experience that you also didn’t need a stinger at the end of this. This felt like we just wanted to tell the story as it was conceived without an added bonus. So, unfortunately there isn’t an end credits [scene].”

After the credits stop rolling, the film does confirm that Black Panther will return. It would be interesting to see how Toussaint would helm the throne after he grows up and what Marvel has in store for the Black Panther character.
