Apple added an important feature to iMessage (which is exclusive to iPhones and iPads) with iOS 15. This feature notifies iMessage users if Do Not Disturb (DND) or any of the Focus Mode is enabled on the recipient’s device. However, the Meta-owned instant messaging platform has not officially confirmed that it is working on any such feature but WhatsApp has recently showcased a concept of the same. According to a report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp might be planning to add a similar feature to its messaging platform. The report has also revealed some concept images to offer an idea about how this feature will work on WhatsApp.
How will this feature work on WhatsApp
The concept images reveal that the bottom part of a chat window in WhatsApp will show whether Focus mode is enabled on the recipient’s device or if the notifications are disabled on the other end. The photos also reveal that the company might offer this option within the app’s settings and may also include a separate switch for users to enable or disable access to focus modes. The company is expected to include the feature in the notification settings, however, the option if added to the privacy settings would be more apt, reports TechRadar.

Apple introduced the Focus Mode and Notification Summary features along with iOS 15. These features allow users to create their profiles, apart from the normal DND mode. It can act as multiple profiles or second screens for Apple devices where users can select the apps that can send notifications, calls that need to be attended and iMessage’s ability to notify about incoming texts.
WhatsApp Status feature
WhatsApp also offers a Status feature which can be found in the profile info and it works on both Android and iOS. These statuses are not visible in the chat window and users, who are unknown about the recipient’s status drop their messages without checking. The report mentions that WhatsApp can use an API to identify the status changes and can make them visible in the chat window.
Third-party apps integrating the feature
Other third-party messaging apps like Telegram and Facebook Messenger also help users to connect with their friends and family. So, these platforms adopting the feature will also enhance the user experience. However, the possibility for this feature to arrive on other apps is very slim as Apple is expected to keep it exclusive only to iMessage. The report also suggests that if this feature turns out to be one of the ways to keep users loyal to its ecosystem, then the Cupertino-based tech giant might never share this feature with other companies.
