WhatsApp may make it easier for you to search for a message

WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new button that will make it easier for you to search for a message. Last year, the Facebook-owned platform introduced a new design of contact information section for Android users, who are enrolled in the beta program. Now, as per a report by WABetaInfo, the company has added a new search shortcut to that redesigned page for a few Android beta testers. The new shortcut was rolled out with a new update through the Google Play Beta Program. The update brings the version of the app up to 2.22.6.3.
According to the screenshot shared by WABetaInfo, the new search shortcut is added next to the Video call icon. As per the report, a few users are also able to see the new shortcut in the group info section as well. The report further suggests the shortcut does not seem to be working as it should. As the feature is still in the beta version, it is expected that the company may fix this issue in the upcoming beta updates. As mentioned earlier, the feature is only available for Android users but the company might roll out the feature for iOS users as well.
Currently, the search button is located on the homescreen of the app. You can search for any message that you have sent or received using the feature. The search option also offers several filters to narrow the search such as — photos, videos, links, gifs, audio and documents.
Earlier this week, WhatsApp also started testing the message reaction feature for desktop users. With this feature, users will be able to react to a message with emojis. Similar feature is already available on other Meta-owned platforms, including Facebook and Instagram. As per WABetaInfo, desktop users will be able to see a new message reaction button whenever the cursor is near a message. Users will get the options of emojis to react to a message once they press the button.
