Soon after rolling out the Companion app for all beta testers across the globe, WhatsApp has moved on to testing another new feature on its platform. WABetaInfo has reported that WhatsApp has started testing Expiring groups in beta on iOS version 23.5.8.71 on TestFlight Beta. The report also mentions that the same is also being tested on Android beta version 2.23.8.11.
According to the report, Apple iPhone users can install WhatsApp on version 23.5.0.71 via TestFlight and try out the feature. However, do note that the feature is being tested with a select number of beta testers. It is possible that despite the latest beta version installed on your phone, you may not see the feature.
What are WhatsApp Expiring groups?
WhatsApp Expiring groups are groups that have an expiration date set by the user. Users can choose from different expiration dates like one day, one week and even a custom date. The feature will automatically remove the user from the group after the set date or timeline and prompt users to clear the group. It is important to note that only users who’ve set the expiration date will be removed from the group; other participants of the group will be unaffected.
This will help declutter groups when they aren’t required. In addition, it will also help users create a temporary group for anniversaries, birthdays, or other occasions/events and then automatically delete it when the purpose is over.
The report also includes some screenshots of the feature that showcases how it works. As per the screenshot, users can choose from different expiry dates for the group. D note that the expiration date set by you only applies to you and not other participants of the group, unless they’ve set an expiry date for themselves.
