When will people on tax credits receive the cost of living support payments? | Personal Finance | Finance

Around eight million people who rely on Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) benefits will be able to get the second cost of living payment this autumn to help pay energy bills and meet higher living costs. However, the date they will receive it depends on which state benefits they claim – with those on tax credits having to wait a bit longer.

Meanwhile, Octopus Energy is giving away free electric blankets to its UK customers to help them stay warm without having to turn the heating on.

The energy provider ran a similar scheme last year giving away £8,000 blankets to those who needed them.

The free blankets helped reduce the average customer’s bill by 19 percent, the energy firm claimed.

“Heating an individual rather than a whole home can save hundreds off a customer’s bill, and at times that we know how much people are struggling, we hope these blankets can be a real difference maker,” Rebecca Dibb-Simkin, chief product officer at Octopus Energy, told The Sun.

The supermarket chain has launched a hot “winter warmer” meal deal including soup, roll and unlimited tea or coffee for over 60s at any of its cafes.

Pensioners will be able to enjoy this £1 meal deal any time throughout November and December.

This campaign will run alongside Asda’s “Kids eat for £1” meal deal.

Asda’s “kids eat for £1” deal has proven to be extremely popular with more than 557,000 meals served since its launch in late June.
