In France, wine harvest time occurs between August and October and is known as ‘la vendange’.

The season lasts so long because of the difference in grape ripening times. During this time, the French countryside thrives, with workers coming to harvest and tourists coming to discover the process and even taste for themselves.

Just over the border in neighbouring Germany, October kicks off an annual and world-famous tradition.

Oktoberfest began over 200 years ago as a wedding celebration when Bavaria’s Crown Prince Ludwig married Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen, however, it’s a tradition which has remained and attracted tourists from across the globe.

If you are a lover of gastronomy and beverages, Oktoberfest is a seasonal calling.

However, if you prefer to become one with nature, Switzerland’s Lugano could be the destination for you.

There are innumerable trails for a walk or hike in the region against a backdrop of red, orange and brown hues.

The temperature remains warm enough to enjoy some of the lakes in the region while taking in the season’s colours.
