S Club 7 singer Paul Cattermole has died “unexpectedly” at the age of 46, his family and the pop group announced. But who was Paul Cattermole and what was the impact he had on his fans?

The vocalist, who was set to reunite with the famous pop group in February for a 25th anniversary tour, was found dead on Thursday afternoon at this home in Dorset.

Paul was born in St Albans in Hertfordshire in March 1977.

He went to the National Youth Theatre before being picked up to join S Club.

As a member of the group he sold 14 million albums worldwide and had four UK number ones and a number one album.

After joining the group in 1999, by 2002 he had left to set up a metal band called Skua.

However after failing to get a record contract the band split.

In 2008 he and two other original members of S Club 7 announced they were to form S Club 3.

Alongside Jo O’Meara and Bradley McIntosh, he travelled across the UK performing at universities and nightclubs.

In 2015 Paul took his place in the S Club 7 reunion, which saw the band tour the country during May.

In 2014 he declared bankruptcy and sold his Brit Award for Best British Breakthrough Act on eBay for £66,100, saying “there are bills to pay.”

His death was confirmed by the band on Friday 7 April.

Television presenter Vernon Kay has paid tribute to Paul Cattermole after his death aged 46, stating he “always had time for a chat”.

“This is so very sad,” Kay tweeted.

“From when I first started in TV all the way through CBBC, T4, TOTP, smash hits poll winners Paul and Sclub were always there. He always had time for a chat. RIP.”

Scottish broadcaster Lorraine Kelly has described Paul Cattermole as “gentle and shy” as she paid tribute to the singer following his death.

“This is so sad. Lovely man and he was so looking forward to the #sclub7 reunion,” she tweeted.

“Interviewed them all many times and struck by how gentle and shy he was.”
