The Pro models are now truly Pro
With the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, there seems to be no major upgrade in terms of design. The display — with a notch — is the same as last year. The cameras have been upgraded but the design still remains the same as iPhone 13. It’s a big surprise to see iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus come with an A15 Bionic processor. Whatever the case of cutting corners, Apple never wavered from the idea of giving the vanilla iPhones the best processor in a smartphone. Now, it’s the second-best processor in a brand new iPhone.

For the first time, you can actually see — from the front — how different the two iPhone variants actually look. The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max get the Dynamic Island whereas the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus have the notch display.
The chip shortage isn’t going anywhere soon
There has been a massive shortage of chipsets all over the world. Backing the non-Pro iPhones with an older processor could very well help Apple meet the expected demand for the two smartphones. The A16 Bionic is an all-new processor and the chip shortage could be a reason why Apple decided to use the A15 for two new iPhones this year.
The price factor
Surprisingly, Apple hasn’t hiked the price of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. The iPhone 14 starts at Rs 79,900 which is the same as iPhone 13. If Apple had given the A16 Bionic chip with the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, chances are the price would have been hiked. Like it has with the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Apple is very much aware that for a lot of buyers the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus would be the go-to devices — mainly because of the price. The price difference between the Pro and non-Pro phones is a substantial Rs 40,000 now. An older processor in more than one way helps keep Apple the price down for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus.
