Will Be Contesting Cricket Association Of Bengal Polls, Says Sourav Ganguly

Outgoing BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly could be back as the president of his state unit, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), the former India captain said on Saturday. Ganguly, who had to step down from the BCCI president’s post as there is no precedence of anyone continuing in the top job for more than three years, had been the CAB president for four years between 2015 to 2019 before coming to the BCCI.

“Yes, I will be contesting the CAB polls. I plan to file my nomination on October 22. I have been in CAB for five years and as per Lodha Rules, I can continue for another four years,” Ganguly told PTI.

There was a strong buzz that Ganguly’s elder brother Snehasish would contest in place of Avishek Dalmiya for the top post, but the former India player’s nomination changes a lot of equations.

“I will finalise my panel on October 20. Let’s see,” Ganguly said.

Ganguly is on his way out as the president, with Roger Binny likely to be his successor.

Though reports claim that Ganguly wanted to continue as the chief of the board, the former India captain reportedly didn’t get the backing he wanted from other members.

While BCCI are yet to make an official announcement, Ganguly, while speaking at an event, confirmed that he will ‘move on to something else’.

“I have been an administrator and I will move on to something else,” he said at the event. “Whatever you do in life the best days are when you played for India. I have been president of BCCI and I will go on to do bigger things. You can’t be a player forever, you can’t be an administrator forever. It’s been great doing both”

“I never believed in history but the feeling in the past was east lacked talent to play at that level. You don’t become an Ambani or Narendra Modi in one day. You have to work for months and years to get there,” he further said.
