12-year-old Australian skateboarder Chloe Covell has achieved a career best result, winning bronze at the X Games in Japan.
Placing third in the Women’s Skateboard Street competition, the rookie was the youngest medalist at the Chiba event.
Speaking to Nine’s Sports Sunday, the 2021 Women’s Australian Skateboarding League street skating champion was rapt with the experience.

“Being in Japan was great and winning the bronze was even better,” she said.
Still a child, but competing in a sport dominated by talented youngsters, Covell’s skating inspiration is a teenage sensation which she met for the first time in Japan.
“Her name is Rayssa Leal, she’s from Brazil,” she said.
“I’ve always wanted to see her. She’s my favourite skater and it was great to skate with her.”
Covell finished behind 13-year-old Leal, who won her first X Games gold medal, and Japanese national Funa Nakayama.

Looking to the future, the Coolangatta local hopes to join the likes of Australian Olympic gold medallist Keegan Palmer at the next Games.
“I’m aiming towards the Paris 2024 Olympics,” she said.
“If I get to go there that would be great.”
