Microsoft is reportedly hiking the prices of the Xbox Series S gaming console in India. The console was launched at a price of Rs 34,990. If the development is true, this will be the second hike in six month’s time, with the previous price rise coming in August last year. Microsoft has yet to make any official statement on the same.
As per games analyst Rishi Alwani, Microsoft’s latest-gen gaming console will cost Rs 39,990 after a hike of Rs 2,000. He also said that the pre-orders for the console will start from January 10. In August, the company Xbox Series S saw a 5% increase and it was sold at a price of Rs 37,990. The hike is likely due to the weakening Indian Rupee against the US Dollar.

At the time of writing, both Amazon and Flipkart are selling the Xbox Series S consoles at a lower price. The price of the console on Amazon is Rs 30,999 and on Flipkart is 31,990.
Xbox Series X price rise
In November last year, Microsoft increased the prices of the Xbox Series X console. Alwani also reported the price hike of the flagship console in November. The Xbox website listed the console for Rs 49,999, however, soon after the leak, the Xbox Series X console price started reflecting the new price of Rs 55,990.
In November, Microsoft also raised the prices for Xbox wireless controllers. The Robot White and Carbon Black variants got a Rs 300 hike and went up from Rs 5,690 to Rs 5,990. The Electric Volt variant price was hiked from Rs 6,290 to Rs 6,590.

Sony PS5 console price hike
Around the same time, Sony also raised the prices for its PS5 console in India. The standalone PS5 Digital Edition now costs Rs 44,990 and the 4K Blu-ray-equipped PS5 can be purchased at a cost of Rs 54,900. The Digital Edition was launched at a price of Rs 39,900 and the disc version made its debut for Rs 49,900.
