Xiaomi has announced its much-awaited smartphone – the Xiaomi 12S Ultra – in China. The Xiaomi 12S Ultra is the company’s top-tier smartphone this year, the successor to last year’s Mi 11 Ultra. And this time, the company has partnered with the German-imaging company Leica, bringing some significant improvements in the optics department.

Xiaomi 12S Ultra comes at a starting price of CNY 5,999 (Rs 70,793). It comes in two variants – Classic Black and Verdant Green with a faux leather finish. As of now, there is no word on its availability outside the Chinese market.

Xiaomi 12S Ultra features a 6.73-inch E5 AMOLED LTPO 2.0 panel with a QHD+ resolution, a refresh rate of 120Hz and a peak brightness of 1500 nits. The AMOLED panel comes with support for HDR10+ and Dolby Vision.
Under the hood, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra is powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. The smartphone comes in 8GB/12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB/512GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage. Backing up the smartphone is a 4860mAh battery with 67W fast charging and 50W fast wireless charging support.
Xiaomi’s new smartphone uses Sony’s 1-inch sensor – the 50MP IMX989 sensor – clicking 12.5MP images in 4-in-1 pixel binning mode. The 1-inch sensor is covered by an 8P lens reducing flare and ghosting. The other two cameras are a 48MP IMX586 ultrawide snapper and a 120mm equivalent periscope telephoto camera.
Xiaomi says that Leica is bringing its expertise in optics design and imaging software to improve the cameras on the latest Xiaomi 12S series. The Xiaomi 12S Ultra comes with two new photographic styles – Leica Authentic and Leica Vibrant – and there are a few more filters –Leica Vivid, Leica Natural, Leica BW Natural, and Leica BW High Contrast.
