“In pursuit of a connected tomorrow and to unlock the boundless potential of 5G in India, Xiaomi and Vi are coming together to empower their consumers with an unfiltered 5G network on their devices. Xiaomi India and Vi have extensively tested the network in New Delhi across Xiaomi and Redmi 5G devices,” reads the press release.
However, do note that Vodafone-Idea has still not rolled out the 5G network in India, and is still under testing. The companies said that they have extensively tested the 5G network of Vi within Delhi across these Xiaomi and Redmi smartphones. These 18 Xiaomi and Redmi smartphones will only support Vodafone-Idea 5G network when rolled out.
Once available commercially, these smartphones receive firmware updates over the air, enabling the support for Vodafone-Idea’s 5G services. Users will only have to change the preferred network on their smartphones from 4G to 5G to experience the 5G network.
It remains unclear when Vodafone-Idea will roll out 5G services in India but the launch seems imminent as the telecom operator works with manufacturers to enable 5G support on their smartphones. Last month, Vodafone-Idea announced 5G support for Motorola smartphones in India.
