Xiaomi on Thursday has introduced two new selfie-focused smartphones in India, dubbed as Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite. Notably, the Redmi Y1 Lite is actually a rebrand of Redmi Note 5A which was launched earlier in China. The Redmi Y1 comes with a price tag of Rs 8,999 for the 3GB RAM variant, while the 4GB RAM variant comes is priced at Rs 10,999. The Redmi Y1 Lite is priced at Rs 6,999.
Both smartphones will be made available via Amazon and Mi.com, the first sale is on November 8. The handsets will also be available via offline stores as well. The company has also tied up with Reliance Digital, all Xiaomi smartphones will now also be available from Reliance Digital. Idea Cellular customers will get additional 280GB of 4G data with the purchase of both the devices.
Xiaomi Redmi Y1 Specifications
Talking about specifications, the Redmi Y1 runs on MIUI 8 based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system and sports a 5.5-inch HD (1280×720 pixels) display protected with Corning Gorilla Glass on top. The smartphone is powered by a 1.4 GHz 64-bit Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 processor along with Adreno 505 GPU. It offers 3GB/ 4GB RAM with 32GB/ 64GB of internal storage which is further expanded up to 128GB via microSD card.
Coming on the major highlight of the smartphone, the Redmi Y1 comes equipped with a 16MP front-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture and a 764-degree wide-angle lens, it also features an LED selfie-light, for better selfies in low light conditions. The Beautify 3.0 feature on it helps beautify selfie photos. On the back, it sports a 13MP care camera with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF, and dual-LED flash.
Xiaomi Redmi Y1 Lite Specifications
The Redmi Y1 lite also runs on MIUI 8 based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system and sports a 5.5-inch HD (1280×720 pixels) display protected with Corning Gorilla Glass on top. The smartphone is powered by a 1.4 GHz 64-bit Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor coupled with Adreno 308 GPU. It offers 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage which is further expanded up to 128GB via microSD card.
The Y1 Lite also sports a 13MP care camera with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF, and dual-LED flash. On the front, there is a 5MP front-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture.
Both the smartphones are fueled by a 3080mAh battery which is claiming to offer 35 hours of call time and 11 days of standby time. Connectivity options include dual-SIM support, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS/GLONASS, 3.5mm audio jack and micro USB port. Both the devices come with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, which the company claims can unlock the device in just 0.3 seconds. They measure 153×76.2×7.7mm and weighs 153 grams.
Xiaomi also announced the availability of the MIUI 9 Global ROM – early November for Redmi Note 4, Mi MIX 2, and Mi Max 2, with other smartphones set to get it by end of the month.
