Cristiano Ronaldo has been spotted training with former club Real Madrid at their training base as the unattached Portuguese superstar searches for a new club for the first time in his career as a free agent, according to reports. The 37-year-old has returned from World Cup duty with Portugal to head straight to Madrid as he looks to stay fit while he looks for a new club following the termination of his contract by Manchester United.

It is the first time in four years that Ronaldo has returned to his former club, who he left in 2018 to join Juventus after spending nine glorious years with the La Liga giants following his world-record £80million transfer in 2009. And while reports teased a shock return, it is believed Ronaldo is only working on his fitness at the training base in Valdebebas.

Ronaldo’s hopes of winning the World Cup ended in tears as Portugal were stunned 1-0 by surprise package Morocco, who became the first African side to secure their passage to the semi-final in the tournament’s 82-year history.

The former United star walked down the tunnel in tears after watching the Selecao’s hopes crumble, with the forward’s appearance in Qatar likely to be his 22nd and last World Cup outing. He is also facing an uncertain future at club level, with interest from Saudi Arabian clubs Al Nassr and Al-Hilal.
