Bandai has started to show off cards from the next official The Dragon Ball Super Card Game expansion. The March 2022 set is the sixteenth main set and the seventh expansion under the Unison Warrior Series banner. The set, titled Realm of the Gods (with its full name being Unison Warrior Series BOOST – Realm of the Gods) focuses on the deities of Akira Toriyama‘s universe. Confirmed focuses of the set include the Tournament of Power, the Champa Saga, the Future Trunks Saga, and Xenoverse material including Trunks Xeno and Mechikabura. As Dragon Ball Super Card Game debuts artwork from this upcoming set, Bleeding Cool will offer a look into the upcoming cards from a collector’s perspective.
Last time, the Yellow section of Realm of the Gods had me discussing the tragedy of The Future Trunks Saga in Dragon Ball Super. Undeniably one of the bleakest storylines that Toriyama has ever delivered, we returned to Trunk’s doomed future to… you know, doom it even further. However, today’s preview of the Shadows Aligned card shows that even this storyline had glimmers of hope. Pictured here is the Gohan of the main timeline with the specter of the Gohan from Future Trunks’ timeline, who died when Trunks was a boy. One of the most poignant moments in DBS was when Future Trunks returned to the main timeline and spent a day with Gohan, who he had only known in this timeline as a boy. Instead of seeing a man similar to his long-dead mentor, though, he saw a family man whose life wasn’t all war and death. This Gohan startled him with his interests and personality, leaving Trunks feeling initially confused until he realized that this was the result of the peace he’d managed to help bring to this timeline. Then, he was able to accept this Gohan as both a friend and a symbol of hope.
