Michael Schumacher’s wife living ‘like a prisoner’ as F1 icon’s pal provides rare update | F1 | Sport

Eddie Jordan feels as though Michael Schumacher’s beloved wife is living “like a prisoner” in trying to keep the F1 icon’s health a secret from the public. There’s been little information published about Schumacher’s health ever since the seven-time world champion was involved in a horrifying ski crash in 2013.

Corinna Schumacher has been by her husband’s side throughout with the family doing everything to try and keep the F1 legend’s wish for privacy. A “family only” rule has been imposed on visits, although ex-Ferrari boss Jean Todt is one of the only people outside of their immediate circle to have been granted access.

Jordan, who gave Schumacher his F1 debut with the Irish Jordan-Ford team back in 1991, is also a close friend to the family, but he hasn’t been granted visitation access. The former F1 boss holds no grudges and praises Corinna for the courage she’s shown over the past decade in handling her husband’s difficult situation.

“This was the most horrific situation for Mick and Corinna,” Jordan told The Sun. “It’s been nearly ten years now and Corinna has not been able to go to a party, to lunch or this or that, she’s like a prisoner because everyone would want to talk to her about Michael when she doesn’t need reminding of it every minute.”

Corinna has devoted her life to supporting her husband’s recovery and gave a rare interview back in 2021 for a Netflix documentary about the German sporting megastar. There have only been small snippets of information given on Schumacher’s condition, but Jordan believes the family’s wishes for privacy should be respected.

“Privacy is such a vital aspect to sport, business and your personal life,” he said. “[Corinna] has set out some rules, I know her very well and a long time before Michael Schumacher.

“She’s a lovely girl and I knew her when she married Michael so there is a long history of good relations.” He added: “I made an effort to go see Michael in the early days and Corinna refused, and rightfully so because too many people wanted to go see him.

“Jean Todt was given the privilege to go see him because of how close they were from their time together at Ferrari which is completely understandable. I was not able to go see Michael and they said ‘We love you Eddie and we’ve been involved with you for a very long time, but we do need privacy and safeguard of Michael’.”

Corinna has reportedly converted their family home back in Lake Geneva into a state-of-the-art hospital with around-the-clock care. It’s also been claimed that their ‘winter home’ in Majorca has also been expanded to help Schumacher in his recovery.
