“We have received a great response from the sponsors,” Tuhin Mishra, MD at Baseline Ventures, told ET. “PVL has come to light only because of the immense faith and belief shown by the team owners, broadcasters, sponsors, and most importantly, players. This truly is a case of creating a global sporting league from India where we have avoided outside interference and have ensured that the main stakeholders.”
A brainchild of Baseline Ventures, the erstwhile promoter of the Pro Volleyball league, PVL will have its inaugural season in Hyderabad. After the success of the Pro Volleyball League in 2019, which was later shelved due to a legal tussle between the organisers and the Volleyball Federation of India, Baseline partnered with a few original team owners to launch PVL.
Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN), which telecasted Pro Volleyball, has joined hands with the organisers to air the league this time too. “We have already seen the way Baseline delivered the product last time. The viewership gave us confidence that the game would do well,” said Rajesh Kaul, chief revenue officer – distribution, international sales and business head – sports, SPN.
