World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic players will soon be able to tackle an all-new dungeon difficulty created just for Blizzard’s re-release of the game’s most popular expansion.
As outlined in a new blog by Blizzard, starting January 17, Titan Rune dungeon difficulty will be coming to Wrath Classic alongside a new Arena season, gearing changes, and the introduction of the Argent Tournament daily quest hub. Later in the week, on January 19, one of the game’s most iconic raids, Ulduar, will release.
Though many players will have a good idea of what to expect when it comes to Ulduar, the new Titan Rune dungeon difficulty is brand new for Wrath Classic. Titanic Relics will be added to the entrance of every level 80 Heroic difficulty dungeon that, when interacted with, will cause all enemies to have more health, deal more damage, and sport additional effects depending on the dungeon. This new difficulty will reward raid-quality gear from phase 1–10-man raid content–giving those who didn’t have the time or opportunity to raid a way to continue progressing their character.
It’s a major change for Wrath Classic and is the first time Blizzard has added a significant new system to one of its re-releases of older WoW content. However, it lines up with Blizzard’s recent development philosophy of providing more quality-of-life improvements and other changes to the old-school version of WoW, as long as those changes don’t get in the way of the game’s social aspects. It’s for that reason Blizzard has declined to add the automated dungeon group finder to Wrath Classic, a fact that has at times divided the game’s community.
Wrath of the Lich King players can currently benefit from a 50% XP boost event that is live until January 16. In other WoW news, Blizzard recently released a content roadmap for the game’s newest expansion, Dragonflight, outlining all the major patches and updates players can expect throughout 2023.
